Sustainability at Natura Dura

What we’re made of. What we’re working toward.

Why materials matter

Most yoga gear is built for margin, not for the planet.
PVC, EVA foam, and laminated plastics stick around for centuries. We chose slower materials that return to the earth.

What our products are made of

Cork Yoga Mat

  • FSC-certified cork top—antimicrobial, biodegradable
  • Pure tree-rubber base—no synthetic fillers
  • No PVC or chemical binders
  • Recyclable or compostable once layers are separated

Cork Yoga Block

  • 100 % natural cork
  • No glue, no plastic
  • Compostable at end of life

Stainless Steel Bottle

  • Food-grade 304 steel body
  • Bamboo cap, silicone gasket
  • Double-wall insulated, no plastic liner
  • Built to last decades

Organic Cotton Yoga Carry Strap

  • GOTS-certified organic cotton webbing
  • Zinc-alloy D-rings, no plastic buckles
  • Dye-free, bleach-free yarns
  • Home-compostable when the metal rings are removed

What we avoid

  • PVC, EVA, TPE
  • Polyurethane coatings
  • Synthetic glues and binders
  • Mixed or laminated plastics
  • Microfibre fabrics, even “recycled” ones
  • Bubble wrap and plastic tape

Packaging

  • Recycled kraft boxes, paper tape, paper fill
  • No stickers or decorative wraps
  • Ships carbon-neutral from Calgary

Impact snapshot (per item)

Cork mat

  • Replaces ~1.5 kg of foam-based material
  • Saves 500 + years of landfill persistence
  • Prevents future microplastic shedding

Steel bottle

  • Offsets 300–500 single-use bottles
  • Keeps BPA and phthalates out of your drink
  • Cuts weekly plastic waste for most users

Cotton carry strap

  • Avoids nylon webbing and plastic hardware
  • Fully compostable (textile) after long-term use

Our philosophy

We don’t label products “sustainable.” We show the work: simple materials, honest sourcing, light shipping. No product is perfect, but each choice can be cleaner.

End-of-life

A take-back program for mats and blocks is in development. Until then:

  • Compost cork and cotton (cut small; remove metal rings first)
  • Donate usable gear to studios or community centres
  • Separate rubber or steel for municipal recycling
